Community Guidelines

Last updated: 28 July 2026

Meowmbai exists because people care about community cats in the cities we cover. These guidelines protect that community and the mission behind it. They apply to everything you upload, caption, or contribute, in every city on the Platform.

What we're here to do

Document cats. Share sightings. Build a collective record of street cat populations across the Indian cities the Platform covers. That's it. The platform is for the cats, not for controversy, harassment, or self-promotion.

Rules

Only upload cats

Every photo should contain a real cat you genuinely spotted in a city the Platform covers. No stock photos. No AI-generated images. No fake sightings. No other animals.

Be accurate about location

Pin the cat where you actually saw it. Don't fabricate locations. Approximate is fine - exact is not required - but deliberate misinformation degrades the map for everyone.

No humans in focus

Photos should focus on the cat. If a person is incidentally visible in the background that may be acceptable, but photos where a human's face is clearly identifiable will be removed. Photos of children will always be removed regardless of context.

Blur or avoid licence plates

If a vehicle's licence plate is clearly readable in your photo, we may ask you to resubmit with it obscured.

No animal harm content

Do not upload photos that depict animal abuse, injury, or distress caused by humans. Content that glorifies or celebrates harm to animals will result in immediate account suspension and referral to relevant authorities.

No harassment

Do not use cat captions, lore, or comments to mock, target, or harass other contributors. Do not use the platform to stalk or track individuals.

Respect privacy

Do not include identifiable addresses, unit numbers, or other private location details in captions. Do not use the platform to expose the home addresses or routines of other people.

No spam

Don't submit duplicate sightings of the same cat in the same location on the same day. Don't use the platform to advertise products or services.

Report and tip honestly

Only report a cat as missing if you genuinely believe it is - not as a joke, a test, or to see what happens. When you leave a tip on someone's missing cat report, only say you've seen or found the cat if you actually believe you have; a false "found" tip wastes a worried owner's time.

Use contact details respectfully

A missing cat report's contact details can be revealed by any visitor trying to help. Only use them to help find that specific cat - not to add someone to a mailing list, sell them something, or contact them for anything unrelated. Reward, cash, or payment offers are not allowed in a report or tip.

Enforcement

Violations are handled on a graduated basis:

LevelActionApplies when
WarningContent removed, user notifiedMinor first offence (e.g. inaccurate location)
RestrictionUploads paused for 7 daysRepeated minor violations or single moderate violation
SuspensionAccount suspended for 30 daysSerious violation or repeated restricted behaviour
Permanent BanAccount terminatedSevere violation (animal abuse, harassment, doxxing) or repeated suspension

You may appeal any enforcement decision by emailing meowmbai.fun@gmail.com within 14 days, including the post URL and why you think the decision was wrong.

Reporting content

See something that violates these guidelines? Use the Report Content button on any post and pick the category that fits - wrong location, not a cat, privacy concern, copyright, animal harm, spam, harassment, misleading info, or anything else. You'll get a reference number, and we'll review it - urgent safety and privacy reports get looked at first. For anything urgent, you can also email meowmbai.fun@gmail.com directly. Your identity as a reporter is never shared with the person you're reporting, and reporting in bad faith to target someone is itself a violation of these Guidelines.

Getting content removed

Content comes down when it breaks these Guidelines, infringes a copyright (see our Copyright Policy), reveals a private individual, child, or sensitive location, or is required to be removed under a valid court order. You can delete any of your own posts yourself at any time from your profile - it disappears immediately and storage is purged shortly after.
