This Privacy Policy explains how Meowmbai™ collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use www.meowmbai.fun. We are committed to handling your data with care and transparency.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Uploaded photos and associated metadata (caption, cat name, mood tag).
  • Approximate location you select during upload (neighbourhood or map pin).
  • Reports and feedback you submit, including an optional email address for follow-up.

Information collected automatically

  • Device type, browser, and operating system.
  • IP address (used for security and spam prevention; not stored long-term).
  • Pages visited and features used (aggregated analytics only).
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Cookie Policy).

Information we do NOT collect

  • Precise GPS coordinates are stored privately and are never publicly exposed.
  • We do not build advertising profiles or sell data to third parties.
  • We do not use facial recognition on any images.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and improve the Platform.
  • To moderate uploaded content for quality and safety.
  • To display cat sightings on the public map with fuzzed coordinates.
  • To respond to reports, appeals, and support requests.
  • To detect and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse.
  • To respond to report submissions where you have provided a contact email.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Location Data

If you provide a location during upload, your exact coordinates are stored securely and are only visible to you and platform administrators. All publicly displayed map markers use a fuzzed coordinate offset by 50–150 metres. We do not share or sell location data.

4. Photos and User Content

Photos you upload are stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Cloudflare R2). Uploaded images are scanned automatically for cat presence and reviewed by human moderators before public display. Images are retained as long as your account is active or until you delete them.

We do not perform facial recognition or biometric analysis on any uploaded images. We do not index human faces.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only:

  • With service providers who help operate the Platform (hosting, analytics) under confidentiality agreements.
  • When required by law, court order, or valid governmental request.
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of Meowmbai, our users, or the public.
  • With your explicit consent.

We do not voluntarily hand over user data to law enforcement. For a request to be valid, it must come with a court order, subpoena, or equivalent legal instrument issued under Indian law, and we only disclose what that order specifically covers - typically account registration details, IP logs, or upload timestamps. Where legally permitted, we notify the affected user before disclosing anything.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data: retained while your account is active, deleted within 24 hours of account closure.
  • Uploaded content: retained until you delete it or your account is closed; storage purge completes within 7 days.
  • Moderation logs and user reports: retained for 24 months for safety purposes, then automatically purged.
  • IP addresses: retained for 30 days for security purposes, then automatically deleted.
  • Authentication tokens: expire at end of session or after 7 days.
  • Analytics data: aggregated and anonymised; retained indefinitely since it contains no personal data.

You may request an export of your data at any time, or delete your account and content yourself. In cases of active legal proceedings, we may need to preserve specific data beyond its normal retention period.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access - request a copy of data we hold about you.
  • Correction - update inaccurate personal data.
  • Deletion - delete your account and associated data.
  • Export - download your uploaded content.
  • Withdraw consent - opt out of non-essential data processing.

8. Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to personal data is restricted to authorised personnel.

10. Changes

We will notify users of material changes to this policy via the Platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
