Law Enforcement Request Policy
Last updated: 20 June 2026
Meowmbai cooperates with law enforcement where required by applicable law. This policy explains how we handle such requests.
Our approach
We take user privacy seriously. We do not voluntarily disclose user data to law enforcement. We evaluate every request carefully for legal validity before responding.
Requirements for data requests
We require, at minimum:
- A valid court order, subpoena, or equivalent legal instrument issued under Indian law.
- Specification of the exact data sought and the legal basis for the request.
- Identification of the requesting agency and authorised officer.
We do not respond to informal requests, emails without legal authority, or requests from foreign jurisdictions without proper MLAT procedures.
What we may disclose
Under a valid court order, we may disclose:
- Account registration information (username, email, registration date).
- IP address logs (retained for 30 days).
- Upload timestamps and content metadata.
We will not disclose data beyond what is specifically required by the order.
User notification
Where legally permitted, we notify users before disclosing their data. We cannot provide notice when prohibited by the court order or when doing so would endanger someone's safety.
Emergency disclosures
In situations involving an imminent threat to life, we may disclose limited data without a court order. Such disclosures are logged and reported in our transparency report.
Submitting a request
We acknowledge receipt within 5 business days.
